Solar Recovery System™ Analogy
To help patients understand the aging process and how we can interact positively in this inevitable process we often make the following analogy:
Imagine that the dermis or structural foundation of our skin is composed of building blocks of structural proteins cemented together with other molecular components, much like the bricks and mortar of any structural wall. With time, and particularly accelerated by the deleterious effects of ultraviolet radiation, the structural elements of our skin are degraded much like bricks popping out of the structural wall. We all have in place repair enzymes and processes acting like a mason to replace damaged bricks and mortar, in essence, repointing the wall. With aging, and particularly after many years of solar exposure, bricks begin to pop out of the wall at an accelerated rate, faster than the mason can repair them. Over time we can see how the structural integrity of the wall deteriorates significantly, as does the structural integrity of the skin. Modern skin science is aimed at slowing down the loss of structural proteins while at the same time, augmenting the body’s natural processes of repair. Within this analogy, imagine slowing the rate at which bricks are popping out of the wall, and increasing the speed and efficiency with which the mason can make his repairs.
Solar Recovery System™
We all know that excess sun exposure is damaging to the skin. Within the epidermis and dermis, UV light causes a complex sequence of reactions leading to increased collagen degradation and a decrease in the efficiency and effectiveness of the skin’s natural repair processes. Over time these changes lead to the clinical signs of aging such as fine and coarse wrinkles, skin laxity, and surface changes, what we call photoaging. The acute sunburn reaction causes the following changes: redness of the skin, structural damage to cellular DNA, damage to structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin, diminished collagen synthesis, as well as acute and chronic inflammation, which leads to oxidation and free radical formation. All of these changes ultimately lead to the deterioration of skin’s health and beauty.
The good news is that there are now products and treatments available that can be used after unwanted sun exposure to diminish these harmful effects. Toward this end, Skin N.Y. has put together the leading commercially available products and services into their proprietary Solar Recovery System™ package. The components of this state of the art biologically active program are clinically proven to be effective in reducing the photoaging process and/or beneficial in repair and collagen refabrication. The sooner this program can be administered after sun exposure, the more effective it can be.
The Solar Recovery System consists of Signature “Morning After” Facial to ensure delivery of necessary oxidation protection deep into the epidermis. Photomodulation combined with infrared stimulation are performed to reduce inflammation and oxidation, diminish collagen degradation and energize and stimulate cellular collagen synthesis. Treatment is completed with a protective barrier application using oxygen for further healing benefits. Finally patients are provided with a regimen of advanced topical preparations aimed at further providing antioxidant protection, DNA repair, and collagen stimulation.
